I went and gave a talk in a conference some weeks back. That was one of the conference in which i gave a lecture. What a waste of money and effort is the overall feeling i had. Why?
Well, let me tell me what's a conference must do- in a nut shell sharing of ideas which progresses the science. What progress science is empirical data. Well we dont have enough people to talk about empirical evidence as we dont have enough researchers. Well we should share newest researchers finding- knowledge transfer. Thats what we should be doing- that is what the speakers should do. We can also newer philosophical ideas, which i think may be not ideal for PT.
Well everyone will have there own idea- well this is mine. If we dont do that It becomes what we have a talk shop- where in poor students are made to pay up and some sit through what is played to them. invariably no one asks questions or the questions are so poor it makes you cry from your ears.
Then the speakers, well everyone who is invited to speaks thinks they are Yesudas or led Zepling - the gift of a century. I have noted most of the speakers dont sit when the other speakers talk- as though there performance is over why should i see how others are singing or dancing. I have seen some speakers- speak and leave. I was so irate i complained to some "organizers" well they never have any balls and dont know why they conduct a conference so they give a sheepish grin. You may ask me why is important- well starts with basic decency and as i said conference is for sharing of ideas- if you dont want to hear others speak- just say i cant come to your conference - you are not Robert Plant. So i did it in the last conference i went to speak- gave the speech and left - felt like shit and well no one cared- they all said see you bye. well I know i am not Robert plant but they treated me like that, Why? just sad.
The other thing i noticed is the biggest crowd in all the conference is- the people outside with their friends are the major theme. I dont know why you could travel from all over India come to Chennai and sit in the corridors of Hilton or Sherton. I could suggest you should either get a ola and go to the beach or put a room and use the pent up testosterone- You are young ones and you need to enjoy before life as a PT fucks you up.
In the hall i gave the talk there was a small honest crowd- to my surprise they wanted to listen- i dont know what i gave them as a "teaching"- i honestly dont know. But sadly i could see no clinicians or organizers- other than PTs who were there because they have to "felicitate" with a wooden board as usual and a certificate. Just sad. I really dont know why prepare and deliver a lecture to a bunch of students who have trouble asking questions? what a waste of money and time
All these happens with literally no payment for the speakers. As prakash keeps on pointing out- we make a movie and screen it- ask the audience to pay exorbitant money but the hero and heroine are not paid. But as in some associations like IAP the great people who sit on the Dias get airfare and star accommodations. How sad- invariably in IAP conference idiots speak with 6 people for audience- 2 AV guys, 3 PTs- the chair for the speech, and for presenting the board to speaker and one guy who came in search of his/ her friends. What a travesty.
Well the SIP conference was no better- just better hotel, smaller crowd. If IAP conference and other college conference are septic tank of human waste- SIP was just shit, with cleaner toilets. Why? because we dont know why we have a conference, we dont know who should be a speaker- we have speeches on how to break the Pinaka- you know the bow raman broke to marry the girl. As i said the shit was just in a different toilet.
What is the alternate- well the answer is simple- just stop who wants to hear some idiots speak , who listens, who debates, who learns, who sits in the hall, who ...?
We can just arrange a group tour from our associations- go some hill station smoke some weed, drink, and come back- why talk and pretend?
so thats my PT post
Love
Hariohm
